Wall of Power Radio Hour – September 10, 2016
This week’s show centered around the issue of gun violence. Our guests included Rev. Nancy Nord Bence who is the executive director of the non-profit Protect MN, the oldest group in the state that addresses the issues surrounding gun violence. Our musical guest was JD Steele, one of the finest soul and gospel singers in the Midwest. Mr. Steele helped Rev. Nancy put together a stellar line-up of talent for the upcoming Minneapolis concert happening in conjunction with over 200 concerts around the country on Sept. 25, 2016 to raise funds and awareness of the gun violence plaguing America. Rev. Nancy was a great source of information about the actual issues, and JD Steele spoke eloquently about gun issues, as well as growing up in Gary, Indiana with his musical family that happened to live down the street from the Jackson 5. JD also talked about working with Prince, and his love for Minneapolis and the reasons for why he moved here. JD and host Paul Metsa ended the show with a stirring version of Sam Cooke’s A Change is Gonna Come. Coincidentally, Sam Cooke was died from a gunshot at the Hacienda Motel in Los Angeles on Dec. 11, 1964. If you care about making our communities safer, you will enjoy this show!
