Wall Of Power Radio Hour – May 21, 2016
We have the first of several shows celebrating Bob Dylan’s 75th birthday. This show features two men who know a little bit about the man. The first set features longtime KUMD DJ John Bushey, who has hosted his radio show Highway 61 for 25 years in Duluth. John tells us about his show, which features rare recordings and live Dylan shows you won’t hear anywhere else (unless you were at those shows.) He talks about the 7 day Dylan Days celebration taking place in Duluth. Then, via phone, we chatted with Bob Porco, grandson of legendary Mike Porco who was the proprietor of Gerde’s Folk City in Greenwich Village. Bob tells the tale of who his grandfather Mike came to NYC and the beginnings of Gerde’s Folk City, and how Mike gave Dylan some of his first gigs in New York and signed for his union card. Bob also chatted about a stellar line up of musicians he put together to celebrate Bob Dylan’s birthday at the Village Underground, the club that is now in the basement of what was Folk City and talks about his Positively Porco, his work in progress documentary about his granddad and that fabled folk club.
