Wall of Power – 11.28.15
We are in Guitar Heaven this week with Tim Sparks, a man I consider to be the greatest acoustic steel string guitarist in the world. Sparky joined us for the whole hour helping to promote the upcoming reunion of Rio Nido at the Dakota Jazz Club on Friday, December 11th (two shows at 7 and 9pm.) Rio Nido was a fabulous trio featuring Sparks, fellow guitarist Tom Lieberman, and vocalist Prudence Johnson. They got their start playing at the New Riverside Café in the late 70’s on the West Bank referred to as the Bio-Magnetic Center of the Universe. Tim talked about the early days of the band, the making of their debut disc “I Like to Riff” including all the local musicians and artists that helped put the record together. We chatted about the old days and his upbringing in North Carolina. We also talked about the chemistry he had with fellow guitarist Tom Lieberman and how he will be joining Mr. Lieberman with Tom’s puppet Luke the Uke, who he will be performing with at the Bryant Lake Bowl on December 19th. Throughout the show, Sparks kept his guitar in his lap and serenaded us with amazing solo arrangements that went from Merle Haggard to the Nutcracker Suite. I was hoping it would never end. The Wall of Power Radio Hour airs this Saturday at 6pm on AM 950 and is replayed Sunday at noon. You can also stream it at www.wallofpowerradio.com
