A Live Show! We begin with our featured idealist, bell hooks, who died this week. The author of Ain’t I a Woman? Black Women and Feminism and 30 other books, hooks wrote about growing up in Jim Crow Kentucky and covered social theory, critiques of patriarchy, white supremacy and capitalism. My regret is that I didn’t know about hooks until now. Other show topics included $4 million being awarded to a transgender male teenager for how his school district discriminated against him. We also talk about the controversy over transgender swimmer, Lia Thomas, setting records at Penn and nationally. Finally, I talk about gifts—one that I gave myself (by coming out as me) and another, far more important gift when my oldest daughter (who I lost for four years after my coming out) came back to me. Wow!
