The Matt McNeil Show – July 26, 2021
Hour 1 segment 1: Matt starts today’s show speaking with Cliff Schecter. They discuss the House Jan. 6 committee beginning tomorrow and what we can expect.
Hour 1 segment 2: Matt wonders if it’s time for Democrats to go to their old school moderate Republican neighbors and ask them whether they want to be part of the current extremist Republican party. Michael Flynn “jokes” about assassinating Democrats after receiving an assault rifle as a gift in a church. Sadly many Republican voters likely share Flynn’s extremist sentiments.
Hour 1 segment 3: We revisit the Iowa racetrack announcer (and more frequently Fairmont, MN race track) who went on a racist rant. Matt then calls out the Star Tribune for failing to accurately cover the story and bring up that the NFL is not trying to replace the national anthem.
Hour 2 segment 1: It’s the first week of the Olympics. What sports have you been watching? And back to then political front we talk about extremist comments from Republicans that we covered in hour 1.
Hour 2 segment 2: How many legacy media outlets get caught up in the “crossfire” style of covering politics where “both sides” need equal time, even when one side is blatantly lying.
Hour 2 segments 3/4: The Star Tribune reports that Rep. John Thompson said he will not resign amid reports of previous domestic abuse allegations that his wife and a group of supporters denied in a news conference outside the State Capitol. At that news conference a far right winger drove onto the Capitol lawn honking her horn and waving a Trump flag. She was stopped by police and then let go. Would that have happened if she was black?
